2011年12月13日〜16日にかけてパシフィコ横浜において第34回に本分子生物学会が開催された。その中で大会2日目の12月14日に、”Diversity and molecular evolution of mitochondria, plastid and related organelles”と題するシンポジウムが野崎領域代表と橋本班員によるオーガナイズにより開催された。発表者と演題は以下の通り。

“Toxoplasma gondii and plant hormones”: Kisaburo Nagamune（班員）

“Nitrogen-fixing organelles, spheroid bodies, in rhopalodiacean diatom cells as a new evolutionary model for understanding organelle acquisition”: Yuji Inagaki（班員）

2名の海外からの招待演者を含む本シンポジウムは、英語で行われたにもかかわらず、大変多くの参加者があり議論も大いに盛り上がった。

 

その後、19時50分よりフォーラム「研究プロジェクトのタイトルにおける『ジンクピリチオン効果』について」（オーガナイザー：近藤 滋 大阪大学生命機能研究科教授）が行われた。本領域は領域名のユニークさからジンクピリチオン大賞候補にノミネートされ、永宗班員が領域を代表して領域の紹介と命名に至った経緯を紹介した。本フォーラムはTwitterとも連動した企画であり、本領域の内容が多くの観衆に伝えられた。なお、フォーラムの詳細は細胞工学（2012）31 (2): 244-251においても紹介されている。
